It may seem like it used to be easier. A visit to the furniture store ended with the purchase of a sofa or a corner sofa bed and everyone knew perfectly what these names meant. Gradually, upholstered furniture began to become more and more “smart” – they were enriched with additional functionalities, increasing the comfort of their use and creating new possibilities for their owners. Furniture ceased to be used solely for sitting and sleeping, and gradually began to become “all-rounders”, around which several everyday activities are undertaken.
The modernised design has also made it possible for them to successfully serve as a decoration in the living room. New terms appeared – relaxation function, TV function, sedalift, electric sensors, battery power supply, manual and electric unfolding… Furniture descriptions suddenly started to sound complicated, which could suggest that a sofa or a corner settee has suddenly become an object filled with NASA technology, unavailable to the average buyer. Is that so? Or is it a myth worth verifying? An explanation of the most commonly used terms will prove that these solutions are available to everyone.
Furniture exactly the way you want it
Modular systems are a category of furniture that you can configure according to your needs. When placing an order, you select the modules you are interested in from the list of available ones and freely combine them with each other to obtain a piece of furniture tailored to the size of your living room and your tastes. Thus, you can design your dream piece of furniture yourself – a small simple sofa, a larger corner enriched with a relax function or a large U-shaped layout with a drinks cabinet and sleeping function, for example. The only limitation here is your imagination.
Furniture that can be configured by yourself, is very popular among buyers. Modular systems such as Domo or Belluno are an offer for everyone – those who want to have original non-standard furniture, those who want to adjust its size to the dimensions of the room, and those who want the furniture to match their lifestyle.
Convenience powered by electricity
The relax function, also often called the TV function, is the ability to recline the seat and unfold the footrest to change the angle of the backrest. It is used both in free-standing armchairs and in modular systems. It makes your rest more effective, as you can adopt the most suitable body position, from sitting to reclined. There are several different mechanisms for unfolding the relaxation function. The simplest and most economical is manual, activated by the power of one’s own muscles (for example in the Tom chair).
A more advanced solution is the electrical reclining, which, as the name suggests, is powered by electricity. In this case, a special motor is installed in the furniture, which is responsible for the operation of the mechanism. Such a piece has to be connected to an electrical socket or be equipped with a battery, which makes the furniture independent of an external power source. The chair is controlled by means of discreet buttons – so-called electric sensors – mounted on the side of the furniture. Armchairs with electric relax function can be supplied with one motor (e.g. Inari and Res armchairs) – the footrest and backrest are folded out at the same time, or two motors (e.g. Arosa armchair), where the footrest and backrest angle can be independently controlled.
The electrical relaxation function can also be present in modular system furniture, such as the Domo series.
Royal sleep
Lounge furniture is very often used as a reserve space to accommodate unexpected guests. For many people, the sleep function is therefore a “must have” element, very important when making purchasing decisions. There are at least several types of sleep functions and they are constantly being improved. A new version of the classic solution known from old sofa beds is C.S.T. or Comfort System Technology – it is used primarily in furniture from the economic category, where simple, proven and practical functions are combined with modern design, such as those inspired by Scandinavian style (as in the Nappa sofa).
The Italian frame is a very comfortable sleep function, which allows you to easily and quickly turn the sofa into a comfortable bed. After unfolding the furniture, the user sleeps on a full-size mattress made of high-flexible foam, which guarantees a comfortable night’s rest.
Sleep functions in modular systems are also becoming even easier to use and more comfortable. The improved Leopard function used in Domo opens more easily than the version known from other models, no longer requires removing cushions from the backrest and, thanks to a spring mattress, guarantees high sleeping comfort over the entire surface.
The comfort you deserve
It would seem that nothing more can be invented in lounge furniture. And yet, innovations are constantly being introduced that make them even more comfortable and user-friendly. The armchairs swing like cradles and easily turn around thanks to the swivel base (e.g. the Arosa armchair). The height of the backrest in corners and sofas can be adjusted thanks to the movable headrests, which can not only folded and unfolded, but also set at any angle that is most comfortable for the user (e.g. movable headrests that are an integral part of the backrest, as in the Domo model). A mobile drawer (Domo) is installed in the drinks cabinet, which facilitates access to the things stored in it. An interesting novelty is the electrically extendable seat, which can be found, for example, in the Massimo model. This solution allows you to rest comfortably both sitting and in a reclined position – the seat can be pulled out thanks to the electric sensors without getting up from the furniture, while its greater depth guarantees comfortable support for your legs.
