Modular system – what is it exactly?
To put it simply, a modular system is a collection of furniture consisting of a few to several dozen elements that can be combined in various configurations. These elements are usually referred to as modules or blocks. Depending on the effect you want to achieve and your needs in connection with the lounge suite for the living room, you arrange the selected blocks to make a smaller sofa, a traditional L-shaped corner sofa or a large, extended U-shaped unit, on which you will be able to rest comfortably with your family.
Modular furniture is a solution that has revolutionized interior design. First of all, they allow you to experiment with space planning. In a way, you become the designer of your dream furniture, as you decide about its size and dimensions, choose its functionality, colour and type of upholstery. Its final look, shape and form are a reflection of your preferences and imagination. So you can be sure that the piece of furniture in your living room will be unique and one of a kind, and will at the same time express you and your character.
The main advantage of modular systems is that you are no longer limited to choosing furniture in a ready configuration offered by the manufacturer. This means that you can decide for yourself whether the furniture will have the sleeping function, a liquor cabinet or an armchair with the relaxation function, and where they will be located.
Take your pick
Gala Collezione modular systems are very diverse in terms of design and utility functions. Each collection offers its own specific and unique set of features. In some, designers have focused on minimalism and maximum simplicity. These are manifested by cubic shapes, smooth surfaces without any ornaments and minimal number of additional features, for example. There are collections whose designs refer to the classics, while their functions use the latest technological solutions to improve the comfort of rest. Some of them are a perfect mix of the most recent trends in design and technical solutions. It is entirely up to you which of these options you will choose.

But bear in mind that this is only a suggestion and inspiration. It is you who decide about the final appearance of the furniture!
Choose modules: how to understand the designations of elements in a modular system
Have you found a modular system that looks good and suits your taste and sense of aesthetics in terms of design? It is time to start configuring your dream furniture. Start by checking the list of available modules to make sure that the system includes the functions you need.
Remember that different collections offer different sets of features. In some, you will find mostly blocks without functions, with different widths of seats, for example. In others, there may be several types of liquor cabinets and functional blocks, allowing you add the sleeping or relaxing function.
Where to learn about the features of a particular system furniture collection?
The basic set of information can be found on the pictograms in catalogues. The pictograms graphically inform about the characteristics of a given collection – both in terms of structure and structure, as well as functional features. When you hover over the pictogram, a “cloud” with an explanatory description will appear.
Another important source of information is Gala Collezione furniture catalogue. There you will find technical drawings showing all modules available for a given system, including their designations and dimensions.
At first, the drawings may seem complicated to you. Don’t worry, an easy-to-use 2D creator will help you in designing, while the drawings indicate the arrangement options offered by a given system and the dimensions of individual modules. We will now explain how to interpret them correctly.
Each block has its own name, which represents the type of module and a possible function it is equipped with. Numbers show whether it is a one-person module (marked with the number 1) or a wider one (number 2 means a two-person module, and 2.5 and 3 – a three-person module). Letters indicate the type of particular block or function, or the way in which the block can be combined with others in the collection. For example:
- F or QF – mean the sleeping function,
- TV – means the relaxation function, the designation “e” tells us that the function is powered by connecting the furniture cable into an electrical outlet, while the designation “aku” means battery power; the lack of these letters next to “TV” means that the function is unfolded manually,
- EN – means a corner element,
- KE (side piece), OTM (ottoman) and 1D (long piece) are blocks that can be placed at the ends of the system,
- S – means a bedding compartment,
- L – L – the option to add another block only on the right side (on the left it is finished with a side element),
- P or R – the option to add another block only on the left side (on the right it is finished with a side element),
- BB – the option to add more blocks on both sides.
If in the drawing there are thin slanted lines drawn on the left and right side of the solid, it means that it is an internal solid and you can attach more solids on both sides. If the lines are drawn on one side only, it is a solid that ends the composition and you can attach more elements on one of its sides only. The other side is upholstered.
The system elements are simplified to some extent in the drawings. For example – if symbol 1(70)L/1(70)P is above the solid, it means that the solid comes in two options, as shown in the drawing below it.
